Chennai, March 2024<\/span> \u2013 <\/span>Amma\u2019s Pride<\/span><\/i> invites members of the press to <\/span>experience<\/strong> a groundbreaking community event on <\/span>March 29th at Alliance Fran\u00e7aise, Chennai, 4PM TO 8PM<\/strong>, the first-ever <\/span>Path to Pride<\/span><\/i> impact event, leading up to <\/span>Trans Day of Visibility<\/strong> (March 31st). This event includes an exciting opening act with lyricist Jay, a film screening, a story circle workshop and an interactive art experience. An event open to all.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This is not just a film screening. It\u2019s a <\/span>transformative experience<\/strong>, bringing together <\/span>over 120+ attendees<\/strong> for an evening of storytelling, conversation, and deep reflection. Through an intimate <\/span>StoryCircle workshop<\/strong> and an interactive <\/span>Heart & Head Commitment art experience<\/strong>, this event will be a safe space for open conversations about trans and queer family and community acceptance-conversations that rarely take place in public forums.<\/span><\/p>\n

The event will open with <\/span>a special performance by Lyricist Jay <\/span>– a queer artist, parent, and storyteller known for blending poetry, music, and humor in unexpected ways. Followed by a <\/span>screening of the award-winning documentary film Amma\u2019s Pride<\/strong>, and Q&A discussion with the film\u2019s participants- <\/span>Srija, her mother Valli, and her partner Arun<\/strong>, whose powerful story of love, resilience, and legal triumph has resonated with audiences worldwide. Directed by Shiva Krish, <\/span>Amma\u2019s Pride<\/span><\/i> follows Valli\u2019s journey as she supports her trans daughter, Srija, through love, marriage, and the fight for its legal recognition in Tamil Nadu.<\/span><\/p>\n

A First-of-Its-Kind Event in Chennai<\/strong><\/h3>\n

  • A Physical Commitment to Change<\/strong>:<\/span> The event will close with the <\/span>Heart & Head Commitment<\/strong> art experience, where participants will express their personal commitments to supporting trans and queer individuals,whether emotional (heart) or action-driven (head).<\/span><\/li>\n

    Path to Pride: A Nationwide Impact Tour<\/strong>
    \n<\/span>Chennai marks the launch of the <\/span>Path to Pride<\/span><\/i> impact campaign, a <\/span>five-city tour<\/span> designed to foster deeper conversations on trans and queer rights across India. The next event will take place in <\/span>Kolkata on May 4th<\/strong>, followed by <\/span>Bangalore, Mumbai and Delhi <\/strong>in the coming months.<\/span><\/h3>\n

    Amma\u2019s Pride<\/span><\/i> had its <\/span>India premiere at IFFI Goa in November last year<\/strong> as the only LGBTQ+ film in the entire Indian Panorama lineup and has screened <\/span>at 20+ events worldwide in 2024<\/strong>, including at five Oscar-qualifying film festivals. This impact tour builds on the film\u2019s global momentum, bringing its urgent and deeply personal story directly to the communities it hopes to reach.<\/span><\/p>\n
